Hoodia Safety & Side Effects -

Important to note is that since 2002 when the first Hoodia based products have been available there have been no reported ill effects, nor have any health bodies have cause to ban Hoodia due to safety concerns.

The main concerns regarding Hoodia seem to be based on the effects of taking too much Hoodia, rather than the taking of Hoodia itself.

Generally, the main negative comments are occasional headaches, which may be caused by not following the advice of drinking plenty of water while taking Hoodia.

Also, in common with every herbal product, people with high blood pressure, nursing mothers, or pregnancy, are recommended to not take Hoodia (or any other herbal product) without advice from a medical practitioner.

The major challenge of course is to guarantee that you are in fact getting pure Hoodia. There have been reports of many fake products, where you have no real idea of what you are ingesting.

You'll be reading in an article later how to absolutely identify a true Hoodia product. Briefly, you should only buy Hoodia products that have test results from one of two independent companies. These companies have tests licensed from Phytopharm to show botanically pure Hoodia and P57 content.

Another word you may have come across in relation to Hoodia is 'CITES'. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is a United Nations run watchdog. They have international agreements with governments Worldwide to protect endangered species of plants. As Hoodia is classed as an endangered species, it requires a CITES document before it can legally be exported from Southern Africa.

Several companies seem to claim that simply having a CITES document alone guarantees that their Hoodia is genuine. A CITES document simply shows that some genuine Hoodia was exported from Southern Africa. While reassuring to see, it doesn't tell you what's in the capsule or tablet you are buying!
